My Story

Hello, I’m Charlotte.

I’m a 30-something woman in the United Kingdom. Following the single mother by choice (SMBC) path using an anonymous sperm donor. I never imagined my journey to motherhood would look like this, but here I am, choosing it with a brave heart. My story doesn’t follow the usual script, and yours doesn’t have to either.

Sperm Donor Baby is my personal diary, where I share the reality of walking the fertility road alone through private fertility treatment and using donor sperm. I write openly about becoming a single mother by choice in the UK, the waiting rooms, the endless waiting, and the tiny sparks of hope that carried me through. I hope my story can offer light to others who are still in the middle of theirs. I'll share the process from start to finish and shed light on questions you may have before you start your own journey.

My path to motherhood included IUIIntrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment, often called artificial insemination, where specially prepared sperm is placed directly into the uterus at the right time of the cycle to get pregnant. It was a huge step for me, and one filled with both fear and faith.

I began this journey because I deeply wanted to be a mother. Not someday. Not when everything is perfect. But now. I stopped waiting for “Mr. Right” and started choosing myself and what I wanted for my future before my biological clock ran out and I was left full of regret.

I will write about the emotional highs and lows, the medical steps, the disappointments and the hope. This IUI SMBC blog is for anyone who walks a different path, for every single woman considering IUI, and for anyone who needs a reminder that their story is still beautiful, even if it looks nothing like they planned.

If you are here, you are not alone. We were not born to follow traditions.

Thank you for walking this path with me. I am so happy I made this decision!

With love,
Charlotte
